Gold Bar!!!!?
Is buying gold bar is a good investment?? Anybody know how much gold bar or Gold Coins cost?
Historically, gold has been a very poor investment over the long term -- poorer than bonds, poorer than T-bills, and a lot poorer than stocks. See for example the lovely chart here:

I do not know what it will do over the next 6 or 12 months, but in the longer term it is probably going to continue to be a poor investment.
If you do choose to invest in gold, buying bullion directly is probably the worst way to go about it. You have to pay a small premium (particularly in the case of coins), you have to take physical possession of it or pay someone else to, and if you keep it yourself it is vulnerable to theft and other losses.
